Therein lies the difficulty

Happy February - 2024 everybody.

I wanted to take a moment to express my thoughts on why I have such a difficulty with the CCIE Security program as compared to the other certifications I have taken.

First and foremost, it deals with a lot of different technologies within the security realm. All the way from IPS to security provided by Cloud services such as Umbrella.

Second, it involves quite a few different product families, ranging from Routers, Switches, Firewalls all the way through appliances such as ISE, Stealthwatch, WLC and many others. This makes it inherently difficult to setup labs and actually focus on the labs and not on administrative stuff. I cannot even begin to tell you how much time ive put into just setting up the lab frameworks for practicing.

Third, I dont deal with too many of these products and services on a day to day basis, which makes familiarity quite hard for me. Others in the same pursuit dont have too much problem with this, which is great for them, but for me this is an issue.

Fourth, Finding good training material, such as instructor led bootcamps or the like is VERY hard to come by. Most overpromise on something and never finds the time and inclination to actually commit to it. Other vendors wont provide information on whats contained in their offerings BEFORE shelling out $3500. These cannot be taken seriously and I would rather save my money then.

Even though these points can be taken negatively, I am trying to look at it with a possitive attitude, that im constantly learning something new and interesting, even though the road to this one seems quite bumpy and long.

So in summary. Its a tough one for sure, at least for me. But im still in the game and will continue learning!

Thanks for reading.

Until next time!
