Lan QoS – going insane

I was doing some lan QoS yesterday evening. Specifically i wanted to mark some packets.
As usual, i wanted to create a policy-map, referencing some class-map, and then set the IP precedence value.
I tried to get this working for like 3 hours. I was verifying the behavior using the “sh policy-map interface ” command,
but it kept showing that there was no packets being matched.
As said, after 3 hours of searching the net for information, Doc CD and reading QoS exam guide, i was still nowhere. Finally
I went to #cisco on A clever guy pointed out that with some switch platforms, QoS is done purely in hardware, and it will
NOT set the counters. So, for me, this meant that my solution had worked all along, but my way of verification was wrong. A very valuable lesson
to learn!

Interesting indeed. – a place for all things copyrighted

I was checking (A place in favor of sharing things online) the other day, and found that a new site, had been started by a former spokesperson of
The site aims to shed some light on immaterial “rights”. This is a good idea and I for one welcome it.
One of the first articles that was posted was from the chairman of KODA, a rightsholder organisation for composers in Denmark. His article can be found here.
I wrote my reply in the comment section, but Id like to point out the main point of my comment, which is that copyright does not exist for the single reason to put food on the table of artists. It exists as a means for a society to create incentive for artists to create more well, art. We do this for the sake of our society, not because we feel artists by definition should get paid. This is a misunderstanding. So, if we are to discuss copyright in the digital age, I feel it is important to see why copyright was invented in the first place, to benefit the society, only then can we find new ways to accomplish the same goal, to benefit society, even if that doesnt agree with right holders.
Again, Im not against people getting paid for their work by any means, what i AM against is criminalizing an entire generation of internet users for basically do, what we people do…. share.

Republicans owning the election so far

This is another great strategic move by the republican party. Let the two democrats fight against each other all they can, while taking focus of John McCain.
Then when the real election cycle begins, they can put credibility behind a claim that the democratic candidates are focusing more on getting elected than the real issues, and they dont have a clear focus on solving the problems that the United States faces.
It will be another smear fight, and unfortunally I think the average voting american will think “well, they fought each other, instead of solving their differences, ill vote McCain”, which is going to put the US further down the drain.
You gotta give some credit to the strategists in the republican party, Carl Rove is a mastermind in this game, even though he is pure evil.

The proposed legislation for criminalizing internet users has been twarted — This time at least.

But it was a close one:
The vote was close, with 314 MEPs (Members of the European Parliament) voting in favor of an amendment to scrap what many consider draconian and disproportionate measures to protect copyright over the internet, and 297 voting against the amendment.
That means there are still 297 souls out there, that really dont get that Internet access is vital for any person living in this day an age. And the ones that dont use the Internet is the ones that wont be affected by this at all either. So you want to put up a fence for a person to Search online for a job, doing financial transactions, which in many places are solely done through the net. Getting educational material through the net, and continuing your education. Doing your groceries online for especially the physically challenged. Be a knowledgeable person about the society by reading blogs and even mainstream papers.
Yes, lets all bow down to our mighty overlords in the entertainment industry, and reject all the good things we have gained from the last 15 years of internet development.
I still want a list of the people who voted against scrapping the idea, so I can launch some sort of campaign against my local MEP.
Do you know of a list like this?

Will you explain it this way to your children?

Filesharing: Filesharing as a technology.

Filesharing, as I define it, is a way for people to share files with one and another.
Filesharing programs, are programs that enable people to do so.
The programming instructions which perform the transfer of bits from one computer to another is a technology.
Slicing, as I define it, is a way for people to slice something, ie. a loaf of bread.
A knife, is a tool that enable people to slice bread.
The creation of a knife, and the resulting product, namely a knife, is a technology.
Generally speaking, we condemn the slicing of people. We put people in jail, or otherwise punish them for using the the ‘knife’,
as a tool for slicing people.
Why is it, that when you compare these things to each other, the MPAA/RIAA and other lobyists are pushing a ban of a technology,
such as a filesharing program? Why is it, that they have succeeded in convincing a large part of society, that by definition, filesharing is bad?
I dont dispute that put against each other, the technology that is the knife, is being used primarily as a tool for slicing bread, whereas filesharing
is used primarily as a tool to distribute copyrighted material. But thats just the thing. Are we, as a society willing to ban technology because what it
can be used for? and where does a technology cross the line from being a convenient tool, to being a menace, and ripe for banning?
I dont have the answers (yet), but I dont think banning technology will do any good at all. Doing something about the usage of a technology would
be a better solution. But alas, do You have faith in the already-mentioned entities in doing the right thing? … I dont.

This sums it up quite nicely.

What do you think?

This is exactly what the white house feels about the environment – Devastating

This is what the white house looked like during Earth Hour:
White House dont give a *uck about the environment
Earth Hour – An hour where alot of citizens around the world turned of their lights to save electricity, and thereby showing their concern for the environment.
I participated, did you?

Another win for the really bad guys, and a loss for the rest of us.

A plane from Copenhagen to Amsterdam, was cancelled yesterday, because of fear of terror.
A group of middle eastern men (all of whom are airline pilots in an Iraqi airline), was the cause of the fear to a Dutch man. One of the middle eastern men, had to use the restrooms, and, like me, you and everybody else, left his luggage (carry-on-bag) with his friends. This apparently was a cause for alarm, the police was called, the plane cancelled, and all for nothing.
Fear is a very powerful motivator.
