On the market for a new laptop.

So after learning that im not employed after september, I am on the market for a new laptop.

This new laptop will be my primary machine, as I very rarely boot up my stationary computer. It should be able to handle quite alot. Right now I have two candidates which are very appealing in their own way:

1) Lenovo W500, This is a really nice laptop with a 15″ screen with a native resolution of 1920×1080 which makes it able to play full HD 🙂 It would be really nice with a screen like this for running multiple things like i always do. At the time of this writing im actually limiting myself to only 10 applications running at the same time 🙂 It has a 512meg graphics card, which should be plenty as I dont use it for games anyways. 4 Gb of ram should be fine as well, my current laptop has 4 as well. In regular 32bit environments you only use 3 anyways. (Oh btw, im running Windows 7 at the moment, which is very good so far). Ubuntu 64bit might be installed on it as well.

Another reason this machine is a candidate, is because ive had an IBM thinkpad before, and its superbly built and rock solid. They really create laptops thats meant to be moved around and rough-handled. According to all reviews, this is still the case for Lenovo.

2) Apple Macbook Pro 17″, yes im a mac-lover 🙂 I really like this machine as it has the same resolution (1920×1080), which means full HD, but on a larger screen. Mac OS X is also 64bit, which means that it will utilize the full 4 Gb of memory. I will probably need this as well, since I will require to run Microsoft OneNote for my study-notes (Yes, I know, but Google Docs was simply not doing the job), and this means parallels or vmware.

As all of you might know, this is a full aluminum casing, and generally living up to Apple’s great reputation for building good laptops. I still have my old powerbook and it works fine for most applications, but its well dated now (4+ years at least). This is the best laptop ive ever had, hands down.

So what do all of you use as your daily-workhorse, and especially for studying purposes?
